Pastor Alvarez began preaching the Word of God in 1976 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. While working as a mechanic for Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company in Muskogee, he began his evangelistic ministry speaking in small churches throughout eastern Oklahoma, western Arkansas, and many other small churches seeking God and wanting to have him speak. Pastor Alvarez was saved and trained under the leadership of Pastor Don Stewart at Lighthouse 1st Assembly of God in Muskogee, Oklahoma. [Pastor Don Stewart is currently the pastor of Anadarko 1st Assembly of God.] While Brother Alvarez was working as a furniture salesman in Muskogee, a customer named Don Stewart began witnessing to Brother Alvarez. Although Brother Alvarez was reluctant to listen to Don Stewart, Brother Stewart continued to share God's love. Along with Brother Stewart's encouragement, the Holy Spirit's drawing, and a young Christian wife named Phyllis Alvarez, Brother Alvarez accepted Christ as his personal savior. Soon after, Brother Alvarez started feeling God calling him to be a minister of the Word. Tony and Phyllis Alvarez answered God's call to pastor Harrah 1st Assembly of God in 1986. They have faithfully served the church for many years now making Tony and Phyllis Alvarez easily the longest tenured pastors of a single church in Harrah, Oklahoma. Just as Don Stewart led Brother Alvarez to Christ, Brother Alvarez has led many to Christ as well. Brother Alvarez has enjoyed seeing both of his daughters Shellie and Valerie married to men of God by Pastor Stewart. Tony and Phyllis now have 3 grandkids Camden 10, Cayce 8, and Raylee 6. Here is a note from Pastor Alvarez: We live in an exciting time, and we sense an urgency to share God's wonderful plan to His creation. Hebrews 10:25 says, "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." We would never want to pull you away from another church, but we would love to have you and your family come and visit us any suitable occasion you may have. If our ministry can do anything for you or your family, please feel free to call my office. Rev. Tony Alvarez |
