BY THE HARRAH FIRST ASSEMBLY OF GOD CHURCH

Sharon Cargill, Nursing Home Ministry's Director

Ce-re-us bible study
we are "night - bloomers"

(Our Bible Study name: Ce-re-us-a "play" on the word serious: For further study, research topics of Night-blooming Cereus, Century Plant, or Queen of the Night.)
We still "bloom" in old age, and our lives have much to offer. We are a sweet fragrance unto the Lord and others.

They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing. Psalm 92:14 KJV
And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you:
I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.
Isaiah 46:4 KJV
Our Motto Verse: II Corinthians 4:16 KJV
For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish,
yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

Sharon Cargill loves seniors! She is honored to be the director of the Nursing Home Ministry of Harrah First Assembly of God Church. The ministry began with once-a-month "Sing Along" sessions in September 2003, at the Harrah Nursing Center. The "Sing Along" sessions were held until the fall of 2010. Also, since approximately May 2006, Sharon has taught a Bible study at the Harrah Nursing Center on Sundays at 3 PM. Residents gather for a time of fellowship and refreshments, singing, Bible study, and lots of hugs from Sharon!

In addition, the ministry tries to do special things for the residents throughout the year-especially on holidays. The ministry's motto verse (II Corinthians 4:16) was one of Sharon's mother's favorite verses. Before passing away, her mother had suffered with asthma for approximately twenty years. Her mother often quoted the verse and received strength from it. Sharon hopes to encourage others with the verse too.

Wheter it's preparing the weekly Bible Studies for the residents, making wheelchair/walker tote-bags or blankets for the residents, planning a holiday get-togeter, Sharon stays busy endeavoring to fulfill her God-given calling to be an encourager to seniors.

The 4th of July parties are really fun! Everyone loves to hold "Mr. Patriotic Bear" who sings America the Beautiful. There's always good food--whether its cookies, cake, ice-cream sundays, floats, fruit, ect. There's a Patriotic Sing-Along and LOTS OF SMILES!

Even though many residents are in wheel chairs, she encourages them to remember that the spirit-man is not bound. She encourages them by reminding them that their lives are precious and there is a purpose for them according to Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end (KJV). Also, encouragement is found in Psalm 1:3. As they delight in the LORD and meditate upon His Word verse 3 says, And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper (KJV). They still can minister to those about them. It may be a smile, a word of cheer, or a hand on the shoulder, but God still has a work for them.

Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD. Leviticus 19:32 KJV
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. James 1:27 KJV

We can do no great things;
only small things with great love.
